Who We Are
PS 270 has been an important staple within the Clinton Hill community for over 60 years, serving several generations of families since the school’s inception in 1959.
Our Mission
PS 270 is a community-oriented, intentionally diverse public school that ensures equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students. Our students, staff, and families come together as a Crew, weaving a vibrant school community where everyone has a place and space to contribute to the betterment of all.
Our Vision
We believe a more just and equitable society is built through collective action—and that it is our work at PS 270 to empower young people to lead it. At PS 270, that work takes shape through five commitments:
A Culture of Belonging.
Students need to feel safe and known to learn meaningfully. Our Crew culture and social-emotional foundation ensure every student has a place and a voice in their school.
Authentic, Rigorous Learning.
Students do work that matters. Through relevant and rigorous student investigations, we cultivate our students’ power as advocates and changemakers alongside their mastery of knowledge and skills.
Student Ownership and Advocacy.
We employ a learner-oriented approach where students acquire the skills and habits to lead their own learning. Students celebrate and present their learning regularly to their families and wider audiences in our Celebrations of Learning, Crew Community Meetings, and Arts Showcases.
Developing the Whole Young Person.
Together, we share the Crew Values of Community, Advocacy, Creativity, Curiosity, and Joy, working to develop and embody these values as we grow in knowledge, skills, and character at PS 270.
Building Community in our Crew.
We intentionally create spaces of dialogue where the whole community—students, staff, and families—imagine and invest in a shared vision of equity for our community.
